Carnival Creeps Comic

Carnival Creeps

There has been a lot of buzz lately about how women are talked about by men. It’s nothing new to women. It is something that has been happening for approximately forever. Some of these comments are said without us in the room or to our faces. Some comments are more subtle, while some are just plain creepy. And with county fairs coming through, there are usually comments said by the people who work for the fair or carnival.  They will never see you again so, what the heck, right? Who cares? What’s the big deal? But sometimes, the wrong thing is said to the wrong person.

Return From The Dead Comic

Return From the Dead

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s October and that means EVERYTHING SPOOKY! We have already started our Halloween Writing Prompts and ghost stories. We have also started #drawlloween2016 on our Facebook and Twitter profile @hollhideaway. Day 1 was Return from the Dead and this was my (Les’s) go at it. Yes, it is a play on words.

Working Out Comic

Working Out Comic

There are people out there that will cringe at this post. Working out as an adult can be difficult. You try to balance it somewhere between working and sleep and all that other adult stuff in the middle. And working out is, well, work. Your mind has to be wrapped around the idea of sweating, hurting, and not eating that pint of ice cream you bought yesterday. Yes, exercise will help you feel better and look better. Is 15 minutes of cardio enough to sweat off that pint of ice cream? Probably not. You can’t always get what you want (sing that all day now, you’re welcome).

Caught in a Spider Web Comic

Caught in a Spider Web

I love bugs, insects, spiders, and other critters. They have their place in this world along side the rest of us. Spiders, especially garden spiders, are really good to have around the house. They eat mosquitoes, moths, gnats, and all those other flying bugs that bother you on the front porch and land in your drink. Unless they create webs in walking paths, they are left alone to live in peace. Now it is spider web season (late summer, early autumn) and it’s becoming a bit much. The webs are EVERYWHERE! I try to walk around the webs or use sticks to pull them down while whispering “sorry, I know you worked really hard. It really is beautiful!” Sometimes I am not paying attention and walk right into them. The horror.

Grown-Up Goggles Comic

Grown-Up Goggles

Children are about a gullible as you can get, but as we age we develop a filter. This filter keeps us from being scammed, duped, tricked, conned, etc. I like to call them Grown-Up Goggles. They help adults see the world differently (tell the kids that, it’ll blow their minds). I have noticed that these vision enhancers are automatically equipped when I see the “latest and greatest” technology, especially phones.

Three Day Weekend Comic

Three Day Weekend

Labor Day allowed most of us to attempt to enjoy a three day weekend. Did it feel like an extra day was added in there? No. I am pretty sure it went by faster than regular weekends. We did, however, get to see our families and that made for a fun holiday. We hope everyone else enjoyed their three day weekend as well.

The Start of Friendships Comic

The Start of Friendships

All best friends do this at least once. You are hanging out with your friend doing friend stuff, and one asks the other, “Remember when we first became friends?” Then the reminiscent harp plays and you both go back to that exact moment.

For some best friends, there was no beginning. You can not remember a time when they were not there. You grew up together, you are basically family. But for other besties (bros, girl friends, best buds, etc.), you had a connecting moment. Whether it was at school and you had the same classes, you both had a mutual friend, or you worked together, there was a moment when a topic was brought up and that was your common bond. A friendship was born, and you will always  remember that day, that moment. A day your lives changed forever.

The Start of Friendships Comic

“Remember when we first became friends?”

“I like animals better than people.” “I know, right?! People suck.” *meow*

“Still True.” “Cheers.” *meow*

For my best friend, Elizabeth. I love you!

Missing Your Best Friend Comic

Missing Your Best Friend

I am sure this is more directed to women and their friendships, but guys miss their friends too. Maybe not in this way, but still.

There is nothing stronger than a bond between best friends, friends that have seen the best and the worst of each other. You’ve wiped each other’s tears, cheered each other on, fought on occasion, but always loved and supported each other. No matter what life has thrown into the mix (jobs, marriage, distance), best friends are there for each other in their heart, spirit, and soul.

Take a moment to tell your best friend how much they mean to you. Tomorrow is never promised and this might be a day they need you.

Missing Your Best Friend Comic

*A horrible nightmare about best friend being hurt/killed in a  random way that will never happen…*

“Call her tomorrow. It’ll be ok… Can we go back to sleep?”

Home Improvement Part 1 Comic

Home Improvement Part 1

New home owners know that home improvement is nothing like the television shows. There is no educated crew, there is no truck full of every tool you could possibly need, there sure as HECK is no vacationing while everything gets fixed. It is a lot of phone calls, usually to parents first, then to the professionals listed in the phonebook or online, then back to parents. After several hours of trying to decide who you want coming to your home and “improving” it, you reach the end of your rope. You do what every other broke home owner has done, you DIY. Usually with duct tape.

Home Improvement Part 1 Comic

“Oh no! The window has been cracked!”

“A free estimate would be great!”

“So when ARE you available?”

“Replacing it will cost HOW MUCH?!”

“That should do the trick!”

Eating Healthy Comic

Eating Healthy

My husband and I are “graze” eaters. There is a set dinner through the week, but sometimes that can get booted for what we like to call Fend for Yourself Night (we fix our own food, for ourselves). Our kitchen is stocked with mostly junk food, nonperishables, and various frozen foods. After a steady diet of frozen pizzas and pasta, fresh produce is a nice way to shake things up, in theory. After being accustomed to foods with a shelf life of what seems like forever, produce, in comparison, lasts an hour. You would think foods with such little appeal would have a little more patience.

Eating Healthy Comic

“Starting now, I am eating healthier.”

The Next Day- “I’m going to make a salad!”

“What the-”

*Pizza would never do this to me…*
